PCs and Servers
GV Technologies works only with leading manufacturers to
provide proven, reliable PCs and servers that will give great
value to our customers over the full life of the product.
For several years, we have worked closely with NEC to
deliver top quality desktop computers and servers to the
education market. We are delighted with the consistently
high quality, reliability and robustness of these machines,
which offer excellent value. We are also able to supply
desktop computers and servers from other leading manufacturers -
including Dell and Lenovo - to meet specific customer
requirements.
Towers,
desktops and monitors
We offer a wide range of desktop computers to meet our
customers' specific requirements. Desktop computers come
in many shapes and sizes these days. The micro tower
is an upright computer, which can sit on a desktop or can be
suspended under the worktop in a secure hanger. Desktop
models are similar in size to the micro tower but laid out
horizontally. The small desktop chassis is very
popular for the classroom, as it is fully-featured but takes up
much less space than a desktop. The small desktop can be
placed horizontally or upright to make best use of the space
available and to suit personal preferences. NEC's prices
for the micro tower, desktop and small desktop are the same.
NEC have also now introduced an ultra slim chassis, which
is over 40% smaller than the small desktop chassis. This
model offers excellent functionality in a very small box but
does have a price premium over the other models.
Whichever model you choose, you will also need a screen (also
known as a monitor). Cathode ray tube (CRT)
monitors are the least expensive but are relatively bulky
compared to the thin flat (TFT) screens, which are now
increasingly popular. Some users argue that CRT screens
offer a better image than TFTs, which is ideal for graphic
manipulation applications. TFTs have certainly improved
over the years and most users find the image on TFTs to be
excellent. CRTs are usually now only available as 17" (the
diagonal measurement for screens) in a 4:3 format. TFTs
are available as 15", 17" and 19" with larger sizes available
but rarely used for desktop computers. These are generally
all 4:3 format, although some manufacturers are beginning to
introduce 16:9 widescreen formats too. 17" screens have
reduced significantly in price in recent years and now have only
a very small premium over 15" models. However, 19" models
still have a significant premium over the 17" models.
Some schools prefer toughened or "hard glass" TFT screens
instead of standard TFTs. The toughened screens prevent
damage to the screen through attacks with sharp objects.
Hard glass screens are available at a relatively small price
premium.
CRT screens do not normally have any audio capability and
will require speakers or headphones as well. Many TFT
screens include integrated speakers, often referred to as
multimedia TFT screens. Headphones are still a good idea
in classrooms to prevent a cacophony during lessons.
Computers should therefore include front-mounted audio points
for ease of access. An audio splitter will enable two
headphones to be attached to one audio point if computers need
to be shared in classes.
If necessary or appropriate, we can also include backup
devices for your computers. This is often required where
the computers are to be used for Administration systems.
We can include integral tape backup systems for some desktop
computers and can offer a range of alternative backup solutions,
including USB removable disks and external hard disks, depending
on your requirements and preferences.
Servers & Storage
When
performance, reliability, serviceability and manageability are
important - rely on GV Technologies to provide the right
servers and storage solutions for you.
We can provide you
with a range of powerful, affordable network engines ready
to meet your current and future demands. Whether you’re
looking for a Print, Web, Backup or File Server in pedestal
or rack mount configuration, we have the right server for you.
We will specify a server to meet your individual requirements
and will include the most appropriate backup facilities to match
your system.
We strongly recommend that all servers are powered through an
appropriate uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to prevent the
server from damage in the event of power spikes, surges and
outages. In the event of a power failure, the UPS will run
the server from its battery and will eventually control a safe
shutdown of the server.
We are always happy to discuss your requirements and to provide a written
proposal with guaranteed pricing to serious potential clients. Email us at info@gvtechnologies.com or
